About the Role

In this unique and exciting opportunity in an emerging area of research engagement, you will utilise your strong communication skills and expertise in providing specialist advice to support globally renowned scientists regarding international requirements for their research projects.

As part of a collaborative team, you will contribute to the University’s operational implementation of current and emerging aspects of international research engagement, such as critical technology control regimes, enhanced due diligence frameworks and relevant international regulation. Partnering with diverse stakeholder groups across the University, such as senior University Committees, Chancellery, Research Grants & Contracts and Legal & Risk , you will contribute to enabling cutting edge science and technology endeavors.

For example, you may provide advice on potential risks and strategy for an international collaboration relating to sensitive research like technology being developed on the moon.

This is an excellent growth opportunity within a field of increasing importance in the tertiary education research sector, tackling issues such as foreign interference and security considerations as they apply within the research context.

In a typical week at work, you may:

  • Provide high quality advice to a range of stakeholders for strategic and case-specific matters relating to international funding regulatory frameworks, as well as risk management, governance requirements, and Australian best practice
  • Liaise with regulators and external bodies and deliver institutional assurance that research is conducted in a robust governance framework through optimised systems for monitoring and reporting
  • develop, consult and provide briefings and presentations to senior stakeholders and Committees
  • Identify, analyse and report risk, and propose recommendations and pragmatic controls

About You

You will have a passion for supporting research, continuous improvement and innovation with a proven record of influencing and engaging others with your negotiation skills.

While experience with providing advice on legislative and regulatory frameworks within a research context is desirable, we are first and foremost looking for someone with foundational experience and transferable skills who can hit the ground running and be well positioned to develop knowledge of international regulations and expertise within this area more broadly.

With exceptional stakeholder management skills, you will further be able to translate technical and complex information to various audiences and designing and delivering effective governance programs.

Ideally, you will also have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline and / or an equivalent combination of relevant professional experience and/or education and training
  • Excellent communication skills, including a demonstrated capacity to liaise and develop effective relationships with a broad range of stakeholders, and an ability to present and provide advice and briefings to large scale and diverse audiences and senior Committees
  • Ability to collaborate effectively and operate in a team-based environment with a proven ability to thrive in a changing and fast-paced environment
  • (Desirable) Knowledge of international research funding programs with specific knowledge in relation to USA and other overseas funding schemes (i.e. European and UK)
