About the Atlantic Fellows for Social Equity

The Atlantic Fellows for Social Equity (AFSE) is an Indigenous-led leadership development program that aims to drive greater equity for Indigenous communities globally, with the ultimate goal to create fairer and more inclusive societies.

About the Role

Reporting to the Program Director, as the Research Fellow (Impact and Evaluation) you will conduct a literature review on Indigenous evaluation and develop a position paper on impact and evaluation with particular reference to Indigenous communities, organisations and institutions among other activities. From time to time you may be asked to make some contributions to the AFSE teaching program.

In a typical week at work, you may:

  • Undertake independent teaching and/or research in their discipline or related area. In research and/or teaching and/or scholarship, a level B academic will make an independent contribution through professional practice and expertise and coordinate and/or lead the activities of other staff, as appropriate to the discipline
  • Conduct data analysis, research and research support activities either as a member of the team or independently, as directed by senior member(s) of the research area
  • Conduct a literature review on Indigenous evaluation, building on previous work and begin to build and communicate a narrative of AFSE’s approach to evaluation and impact 
  • Undertake administrative functions and obligations primarily connected with the Fellow’s area of research

About You

You will have demonstrated ability to initiate and undertake independent, self-motivated research, paired with excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage your time effectively, administer multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines successfully. You will also have excellent interpersonal and communication skills with demonstrated willingness to work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders.

Ideally, you will further have:

  • A completed PhD in a field demonstrably related to social change initiatives (e.g. Indigenous studies, education, health, social policy, sociology or cognate field)
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience of conducting empirical research (remotely/online), and primary data collection and analysis
  • A demonstrated aptitude for research with a strong record of publication commensurate with experience and opportunities
  • Strong experience in successful project development and implementation
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience working with First Nations peoples and in Indigenous research contexts, including a strong knowledge of Indigenous and/or participatory methodologies and methods
