Mary Tyler Obituary (1934 – 2022) – Melbourne, FL

Mary Dorothy Tyler – April 19, 1934 – July 5, 2022

Mary Dorothy Tyler, aged 88, passed away on July 5th 2022. She was born to Bill and Mai Hayde in Dublin, Ireland and enjoyed recollecting her early years growing up in the city and summers spent with cousins in the Dublin Mountains. After marrying an American serviceman in England during the 1950s, she spent many years as a military wife, accompanying her husband and taking care of her family on numerous assignments both within the United States and abroad. She moved to Melbourne in 1976 where her husband was assigned on his final tour of duty and made the city her home for the remainder of her life. She enjoyed her retirement years traveling to wherever her children were living, spending as much time with her adored granddaughters as she could, and going on adventures with her companion of nearly thirty years, Basil C. Lewis, Jr. She also made regular visits to her family in Ireland and Canada. In addition to travel, she enjoyed reading, listening to jazz and cooking for those she loved. She was predeceased by her former husband, James L. Tyler, her son, Sean, a brother, George, and her companion, Basil. She is survived by her daughter, Jane, granddaughters, Victoria and Olivia (Max), a brother Tony (Margaret), her sister Helen (Seamus) and sister-in-law, Lil. In addition, she is survived by many beloved nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. She also leaves many friends whom she loved dearly. We will all miss her wit, her spirit, and her ability to enjoy life.

A private service will be held at a later date. If desired, any donations in her memory may be made to “The HALO Trust” charity for the removal and destruction of land mines and other instruments of war.
