Man Utd in Australia: Red Devils to play Melbourne Victory and Crystal Palace in July

Manchester United are set to return to Australia with pre-season games against a Premier League rival and A-League Men powerhouse in July.

As part of a wider Asia tour, the Red Devils will face Crystal Palace at the MCG on July 19, while also taking on Melbourne Victory four days prior at the same venue.

It will be the first pre-season tour Manchester United has been on since their trip to play Leeds United in Perth in 2019, with the last two off-seasons heavily affected by COVID-19.

The Red Devils are also reportedly planning to face Liverpool in Bangkok, with a second match against Palace in Singapore also on the cards.

Manchester United has visited Australia on three occasions in the past 25 years, including a match against the Socceroos in Melbourne 1999, a 2013 exhibition contest versus the A-League All Stars in Sydney and the Leeds match in Perth three years ago.

The Red Devils are currently struggling in the Premier League this season, sitting in sixth place, 20 points behind leaders and arch-rivals Manchester City.

After being forced to remain predominantly in Europe due to COVID-19 for the past two years, Manchester United’s Chief Operating Officer, Collette Roche, is excited to see the club reconnect.

“It has been two years since the club has been able to travel on an international pre-season tour, so we can’t wait to get going and reconnect with our fans in Australasia,” Roche said.

“Our matches in Melbourne will be a wonderful opportunity for international fans to see their favourite players up-close in an exciting schedule of games.”
