About the Role

The Laboratory Officer has responsibility for oversight of facilities, equipment, chemicals, biological materials and other supplies required to support the teaching of science education to postgraduate students at the Melbourne Graduate School of Education (MGSE). The Laboratory Supervisor also plays a significant role in MGSE science education by providing knowledge and expertise to academic staff.

In a typical week at work, you may:

  • Testing workshop requests before they are required and in consultation with academic staff, making any necessary changes.
  • Maintaining, testing and arranging data logging probes and hardware (such as digital eye pieces) for all classes, while ensuring that appropriate software is installed on all relevant machines.
  • Demonstrating a commitment to MGSE safety requirements and representing the Science Laboratories at MGSE’s OHS quarterly committee meetings.

About You

You are a confident communicator with an ability to work with academic and professional staff to plan and deliver science education activities in a timely manner. You will have excellent experience in building relationships and interacting and working collaboratlvely with a diverse range.

Ideally, you will further have:

  • Completion of a degree with at least 4 years relevant experience and/or substantial relevant experience in a similar role within a in a tertiary or secondary institution;
  • Signifincat OH&S experience and knowledge and also in chemicals and undertaking risk assessments .
  • Demonstrated ICT skills, experience and knowledge in confidently operating Mac, PC hardware and software, other equipment for example, 3D Printers and office suite programs used in teaching.
